It lights up when someone close sends you a note, changes when the music changes, and gives the weather to whoever walks past. The rest of the time, it simply keeps the room company. It’s harder to describe than to watch.
Someone puts a record on the living-room Sonos, or on one of the atelier’s radios. On the shelf, the title scrolls by, then the cover lights up at 64 × 64. You still recognise it. That’s rather the point.
A note
A note sent from afar. Nothing to unlock.
Your mum types “Home safe?” on her phone, two hundred kilometres away. The note lights up in your home, in her colour. No notification, no read receipt: you walk past, you see it, you smile.
Weather
The weather, only far less precise.
A sun, two numbers, and a jumper or a coat depending on the sky. For isobars, your phone does a fine job. La Lucarne just tells you to take an umbrella.
Aquarium
An aquarium that never asks to be fed.
A few fish, a few pixels each, drift across the screen with no particular aim. Move La Lucarne and they notice. No proven use whatsoever. You watch it anyway.
Maze
The least powerful video game of 2027.
Lay it flat and a maze appears. Tilt it and the ball rolls. Forty levels, no controller, and a surprising urge to have another go.
Photo
A holiday photo, in 4096 pixels.
A photo leaves the phone. At 64 × 64, the beach becomes an impression of a beach. The detail fades, the memory stays. Strangely, it’s more moving that way.
Try it
As if it were right in front of you.
The simulator uses the same screens, colours and font as La Lucarne’s software. Tap it to move to the next screen, tilt it to clear a note, or write your own. In real life it’s made of light, which is even better.
A beach, at 64 × 64. Enlarged, not retouched.
Low resolution, high fidelity
4096 pixels. Not one more.
More than enough to recognise David Bowie.
No Retina panel, no backlight, no notifications. Every dot is a real little lamp: from a distance the picture comes together; up close you see the light. The detail fades, what matters stays.
Low resolution isn’t a limitation we apologise for. It’s our house style.

The technical side, for those who like that sort of thing
Everything is set up from your phone.
The N°24 app sets up La Lucarne the first time you switch it on, then becomes its remote control: that’s where you write notes and choose what it shows, and when.
Now
Leave a note, show a photo or a GIF, start a timer, say “Do Not Disturb”, announce “I’m leaving”, play a game.
Everyday
The Sonos room or radio to follow, the town for the weather, the stop for departures, the times for the morning glance.
Features
The features that rotate on the screen, to add or remove.
Settings
Brightness and night mode, idle clock, buzzer, La Lucarne’s name and updates.
To write on a loved one’s Lucarne, all you need is the app and the access they share with you: the note leaves from your phone, even from far away. You don’t need a Lucarne of your own.
No buttons on the front: a motion sensor understands a few simple gestures.
Tap the frame
Next screen. On a note, back to the clock.
Tilt, then straighten
The note or photo drops off the screen.
Pick it up
The current screen stays put.
Lay it flat
A forty-level maze: tilt it to guide the ball.

At home, your music and settings stay on your own network. Only notes sent from outside go through the atelier – that’s what lets them travel from one home to another.
Everything it can do

Do Not DisturbA red presence, instant and easy to see.
